A new piece of fan art imagines Justice League star Henry Cavill as Kingdom Come Superman for the DC Extended Universe.
The Arrowverse’s next major crossover event is set to adapt the fan-favorite DC Comics storyline Crisis on Infinite Earths. With Superman Returns star Brandon Routh suiting as as the Kingdom Come version of the Man of Steel for the crossover on The CW, Bryan Fiallos has created a piece that reveals what Henry Cavill could look like as this alternate version of the character.
Fiallos recently took to Instagram to share a piece of fan art that imagines Henry Cavill as an older Superman, wearing a Kingdom Come-inspired version of his Justice League costume. The 36-year-old actor can also be seen sporting a comics-accurate hairstyle that pays homage to the Kingdom Come version of Superman. Check out the artwork below.
Kingdom Come is beloved by many fans for its compelling story. Written by Waid and Ross, Kingdom Come was a four-issue series published under DC’s Elseworlds imprint. Set in the year 2020, Kingdom Come follows an older Man of Steel as he attempts to rein in a new generation of reckless vigilantes and inspire them to adopt the ideals of past superheroes.
Henry Cavill’s future as Kal-El is currently in doubt but the actor will soon trade in his Superman suit to play Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s highly-anticipated adaptation of The Witcher. Last year, Cavill dropped out of talks to return as Superman for a cameo in the Shazam! movie. Shazam! still managed to feature a cameo from his version of Superman, though the movie was not able to show the the character’s head in the frame of his shots as Cavill still had yet to work out a deal with Warner Bros. and DC Films by the time it was released. Rumors have also swirled suggesting that Warner Bros. will be focusing on Supergirl in the DCEU going forward instead of Superman. 22 Jump Street scribe Oren Uziel is working on the script for the Supergirl film which will be an origin story for Kara Zor-El.
Henry Cavill can be as Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. After The Witcher, Cavill will next be seen in Enola Holmes opposite Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown.
Henry Cavill was last seen as the Man of Steel in 2017’s Justice League. Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
