Although Henry Cavill’s Superman will appear in other DC movies, it seems Man of Steel 2 is off the table for now.
As fans will already know, we haven’t seen the last of Henry Cavill’s Superman in the DC Extended Universe, but it seems that a sequel to Man of Steel isn’t being considered by the studio for the moment. It’s not clear whether Cavill’s appearance will be limited to cameos in films like Shazam! 2 or if he’ll work on additional photography for the Snyder Cut of Justice League. But according to insiders with information on WarnerMedia, Man of Steel 2 isn’t even an active writing assignment.
There are some surprising reasons why the Man of Steel sequel isn’t being considered for the moment and it might have to do with the recent deal that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot has with WarnerMedia. As fans might know, the company signed a $500 million deal with WarnerMedia to produce movies, shows and games based on its properties. Insiders revealed to Heroic Hollywood why the deal might be the reason for the Man of Steel 2 absence, so check out our video below for an in-depth look at this breaking story.
While Henry Cavill hasn’t had the easiest ride as Superman in the DCEU, he certainly deserves a shot at another stand-alone movie to prove what else he can bring to the character. Hopefully we’ll finally get to see him headline a sequel later down the line. For now, we’ll just have to look forward to his cameo appearances in other DC films.
Other DC projects currently in development at Warner Bros. include The Batman, The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, The Suicide Squad, and Shazam! 2. Meanwhile, Cavill can be as Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
