Henry Cavill discussed possibly wearing the iconic red trunks for Superman in the DCEU.
When he first made his debut in Man of Steel, Henry Cavill donned a Superman suit that was distinct from previous incarnations. Although the iconic red and blue was still present throughout, along with his flowing cape, one element was missing: the red trunks. Director Zack Snyder claimed that this new design approach was to prevent it from feeling too goofy for the tone he was going for.
In an interview with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Henry Cavill discussed his Superman suit design established in the DCEU, to which he has a love for. However, when the topic of the red trunks was brought up, he revealed that he’s not opposed to implementing them into a future redesign:
“[The trunks were] a bit of a hangover from strongmen in the ’20s. I thought it had potential to work. I really loved my suit. I thought it was pretty cool. However, if it were to happen again, I would definitely be open to the idea of adding the trunks in some way, shape or form.”
Although Henry Cavill’s future as Superman remains a mystery in the DCEU plans from Warner Bros., the fact that he’s interested in donning the red trunks in a new suit is fascinating to hear. Given the different approach he and Zack Snyder took with Superman in their three films together, seeing him in a more traditional looking design would certainly make some fans happy.
Henry Cavill was last seen as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Here is the synopsis:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
The Snyder Cut stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J.K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
