Does Hugh Jackman regret putting Blade in Deadpool and Wolverine? The actor reveals the one thing he regrets about Wesley Snipes’ return to the role.
Leading up to Deadpool and Wolverine, fans were excited to see Hugh Jackman take a victory lap in the role he helped define for the better part of two decades. However, following the film’s release, the real legacy card went to Wesley Snipes, who made his grand return as Blade after a 20 year break from the role.
Though having Blade return in Deadpool and Wolverine didn’t just result in a fun walk down memory lane. It actually allowed Wesley Snipes to snipe a record from Hugh Jackman. The film would have marked Jackman as having the longest career as a live-action Marvel character. But, given Snipes debuted as Blade in 1998- two years before the original X-Men- the record went to Snipes instead.
Hugh Jackman’s One Regret With Deadpool And Wolverine
This twist of fate was actually brought up to Hugh Jackman during a recent appearance on Buzzfeed UK with Sing Song Blue co-star Kate Hudson. The actor remarked that he didn’t know about this record while filming Deadpool and Wolverine. However, if he did, he likely wouldn’t have asked Wesley Snipes to return as Blade.
“If I had known, I would have banned him [from Deadpool & Wolverine]. Now it’s just a competition of who’s going to live longer. Actually, I’ll put my money on Wesley.”
Of course, Hugh Jackman is almost certainly joking with his comment. However, the real question now is which star will reappear AFTER Deadpool and Wolverine. It’s possible Jackman retakes the award with Avengers: Doomsday. Though with Wesley Snipes most likely appearing as Blade in Secret Wars, the record may default back to him.
