Is Wolverine making one final return (again)? Hugh Jackman teases that his time playing the MCU’s iconic Canadian claw-man may be far from over.

Everyone knows the story of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The actor carried Fox’s X-Men universe on his back for well over a decade before taking his final bow in Logan, resulting in one of the most beloved comic book movies of all time. Then, he took a victory lap as the character in the MCU with Deadpool and Wolverine, his return as the character resulting in one of the franchise’s highest box office hauls.

And with the Multiverse Saga officially coming to a close, basically everyone is assuming that Hugh Jackman will return as the character at least one more time. In fact, there are plenty of rumors stating that he’ll be sticking around as the main version of Wolverine in the MCU for quite a few years to come. But the actor himself has, understandably, stayed mum on the whole concept.

Will Hugh Jackman Return As Wolverine?

Hugh Jackman recently appeared on Variety & CNN’s Actors on Actors with Cynthia Erivo. Of course, the topic of Wolverine came up, with the Wicked star asking if he was truly done with the MCU. In a surprisingly candid answer, Jackman admits that it doesn’t feel like his time as the character is up, hinting that there may be plans for him to return in a future installment.

“It doesn’t feel like the end. It really felt like the end after Logan. Actually, I needed to claim it as the end, because I really believed in some things that I wanted that movie to be, and I had to fight for them. I had to say, ‘This is the last time I’m doing it.'”

“Then when I saw Deadpool, I was like, ‘Oh. I see 48 Hrs. I see Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.’ But I would shove it down. ‘I’ve told everyone that I’m done. I’m not one of those guys.’ Then I went, ‘You know what? I change my mind. It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not even gonna say I’m sorry.’ And it was so awesome.”

The most likely place that Hugh Jackman would return as Wolverine is the Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars duology. However, it’s also possible that he gets his own solo movie in the MCU, or yet another team up with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. Given Marvel has a mostly open slate for 2027 and beyond, the possibilities are truly endless.

Deadpool and Wolverine is now streaming on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
