With Deadpool 3 currently in development at Marvel Studios, former Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman has responded to rumors he’s making a comeback in the movie.

Deadpool 3 marks a unique development in the evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While recent MCU films’ explorations of the Multiverse have seen characters from past franchises make cameo appearances, Deadpool 3 will bring Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson fully into the MCU.

Ever since Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool series started out, fans have been desperate to see the character cross paths with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Now, the X-Men star has hinted a return could be in the works.

Hugh Jackman In The Rumor Mill Of Madness

Hugh Jackman seemingly stepped down from the role of Wolverine for good following 2017’s Logan, which saw an aged version of the character meet his demise.

While many fans expect a new Wolverine to appear in the MCU, the actor’s friendship/ongoing feud with Ryan Reynolds has also left fans eager to see his Logan cross paths with Deadpool before someone else takes up the claws.

Taking to Twitter recently, Hugh Jackman shared a simple photo of himself staring in shock at his phone screen. He captioned the image only with a surprised emoji, leading to rampant speculation he was reacting to a call for his return as Marvel’s Wolverine.

Now, the Logan actor has set out to shake up the internet’s rumor mill yet again. Jackman shared another photo of himself, hand on hip with his face fixed in a look of… bemusement? Surprise? Desperation in trying to recall how he did all those Wolverine grunts and growls? He’s asked that the internet be the judge of that:

Fans will just have to wait and see whether Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is making a return in the MCU. Of course, even if Jackman’s version of the character does return in Deadpool 3, it could just be a cameo from across the Multiverse and wouldn’t necessarily signal his permanent return to the role.

However, even a fleeting appearance would surely please fans eager to see him join forces – or do battle – with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in the upcoming Marvel sequel.

Deadpool 3 is yet to get an official release date. Here is the synopsis for the previous film, Deadpool 2:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Directed by David Leitch from a script written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.
