‘The Incredible Hulk’: Edward Norton Reveals Favorite Bruce Banner Actor

The Incredible Hulk star Edward Norton has revealed which actor he thought got under the Green Goliath’s skin best.

While talking to Yahoo! News to promote his new film, Motherless Brooklyn, Norton explained that, as good friends as he is with Mark Ruffalo (who replaced him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), he feels that the definitive Hulk actor is the only one that’s no longer with us. According to Norton, the best actor to play Bruce Banner (or rather, David Banner, as he was called in the 1978 show) was Bill Bixby. He offered plenty of praise for other actors who have taken on the role, however.

You can read about Norton’s thoughts on the Hulk below:

“It’s funny [Mark Ruffalo] is one of my old friends from New York theater and coming up together. The Hulk is like Hamlet, lots of people have done it. And for us, it’s Bill Bixby [who played Bruce Banner in the 1978 television series], that’s just it it. Bill Bixby will always be the best Banner. Some actors have more or less plasticity. Some roles have more or less plasticity. Hamlet can be interpreted a lot of different ways, by a lot of different actors… Hulk is Hulk. But Banner has got some play in him. In my opinion only really good people have done it. Bill Bixby, Eric Bana is a great actor. I have my spin. Mark is one of the best. I love that it’s almost become a tradition.”

While Norton has pretty much zero interest in returning to Marvel Studios, he did say that he was open to the idea of playing a villain at some point. Who knows? Maybe they could get Norton to play Bruce Banner’s abusive father Brian, and he could face off against a de-aged Ruffalo in a particularly meta flashback.

The Hulk was last seen in Avengers: Endgame. Here is the official synopsis for the movie:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

Avengers: Endgame is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Edward Norton and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
