‘I Am Groot’: Another MCU Character Confirmed For Disney Plus Series

We are Groot.

Another MCU character will be showing up in Disney Plus’ animated I Am Groot series.

After the rabid success of What If…?, Disney Plus is set to launch a bevy of animated shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of their more child-friendly offerings will be I Am Groot, which will show the animated escapades of Baby Groot. Details on the series are largely unclear but since we’re following Baby Groot, it’s safe to assume that the MCU series is canonically set between the events of the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films.

While we know Groot will be the main player in the Disney Plus series, storyboards have revealed that another MCU character will be joining the devious little tree. Storyboards from artist Mark Hurtado have revealed that Drax will appear in I Am Groot, though it’s unclear if other members from the Guardians of the Galaxy will pop up.

The scene from the storyboard shows Baby Groot nabbing a portable gaming device from Drax using his extendable arms. Groot was seen obsessively playing with a mobile videogame device in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so perhaps this is the untold origin story as to how he got said device. It’s unclear if Dave Bautista will voice Drax in the series as he didn’t get the call from Disney Plus to voice his stoic character in What If…?. Seeing as Drax will be in I Am Groot, it’s fair to assume that other members of the team like Rocket and Gamora will pop up as well.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film and Zoe Saldana’s return as Gamora, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
