Is Ironheart key to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s past? Dominique Thorne speaks on the unique connections to the Disney Plus series and teases the intensity of the show’s villain.
Fans have been on the edge of their seat for Ironheart ever since Dominique Throne made her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It was largely believed that the Disney Plus show would allow audiences to get to know the character before the events of the film. However, according to Throne, the fallout from the project will be key to what happens in the series.
“We actually went straight from Wakanda Forever to filming the series, so I was very, very grateful for that,” Thorne explained during a recent appearance on The Official Marvel Podcast. “It was a smooth transition. This is definitely my first time doing the deep dive into the character after showing her to the world. That was new to me but it was fun.”
“I think it’s safe to say the things that happened in Wakanda required a lot of self-reflection. If you start an interspecies war, we might all encourage each other to take a breath, I think we can say that sheʼs taking that to heart and considering what it means to show up in this world and space in the way that she does.”
Given that Ironheart never had any connection to Wakanda in the original comics, it’ll be interesting to see where the MCU takes the character when her own series lands on Disney Plus. Yet the internal struggles may be the least of their worries. Dominique Thorne went on to tease that the show may have one of the most interesting villains to grace the Marvel universe.
Dominique Thorne Teases Ironheart’s Villain
Fans were confused when it came out that Anthony Ramos would be playing The Hood in Ironheart. It was an odd casting choice for an odd villain. Dominique Thorne isn’t as wary as the internet, though. Speaking of her time filming the Disney Plus series, she told the podcast that Ramos has some amazing tricks up his sleeve for his MCU debut.
“He is amazing. He is incredible,” Thorne explained. “He is the coolest villain in Marvel history. Iʼm excited for the Hood and Riri Williams face-off. Itʼs a really cool build-up to that in the story and itʼs a really intense rivalry that we have. I’m really excited for people to see all the layers, especially in Parker. Parker is a really complex guy and we really worked hard to make him a dynamic character.”
Dominique Thorne is stacking an impressive resume in the MCU, from fish people in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to facing the magic of The Hood in Ironheart. It’s still unclear when Thorne will face off against Anthony Ramos on Disney Plus. But with D23 just around the corner, it’s likely fans will know sooner rather than later.
