Was Ironheart actually worth the wait? The series’ Rotten Tomatoes score has been officially revealed as early reviews for the project remain mixed.
Ironheart may be the strangest series to ever hit Disney Plus. The show wrapped filming nearly three years ago, the production going radio silent before basically shadow-dropping on Disney Plus with very little promotion from Marvel. This not to mention that the night before reviews were officially released to the public, online trolls bombed the Rotten Tomatoes score for the project, forcing the site to reset the score before official reviews came in.
Surprisingly, it seems that the series has managed to fend off trolls even as reviews open back up again to the public. The project is currently sitting at a 70% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with slightly higher reviews from critics landing it a 72%. This certainly isn’t bad for Marvel’s modern offerings on Disney Plus, even if it fails to reach the lofty expectations some people have for the franchise’s streaming offerings.
The Reviews Are In For Ironheart
Looking to social media, reviews of Ironheart seem to be equally as mixed. Some people find the project to be a refreshing change of pace for Marvel, while others see the series as one of the most disjointed that Disney Plus has to offer. While these polarized reactions may seem on a whole other world when compared to the Rotten Tomatoes score, it’s important to note that the aggregator’s score is only a percentage of how many people enjoyed the project.
The best thing "Ironheart" has going for it is what most MCU shows lack: a real sense of place. Set on Chicago’s South Side, it starts grounded and personal — but across six episodes, it gets overcrowded, never settling into one identity before another takes over.

Ironheart's solo outing proves a cynical addition to the MCU as science and magic collide in Chicago.

#Ironheart is pretty solid with good performances from Dominique Thorne & Alden Ehrenreich, but doesn't quite soar since it really takes a while to get going and the villain isn't great, although the finale is well worth the watch. 👀 pic.twitter.com/rAeBfQYjyl

The first three episodes of #Ironheart are out tomorrow, and your resident Marvel cynic is here to say: it’s quite good! It’s a shame the series has been in flux, because Disney+ has something great on their hands. Dominique Thorne is pure dynamite. Alden Ehrenreich is… pic.twitter.com/JNGzBEAw64

Oh, I can talk about #Ironheart now? I’ve seen all 6 episodes. I’m a bit surprised Marvel didn’t market this more. It’s starts pretty strong and gets better and better as the series progresses. More to say in our reactions, coming this week! pic.twitter.com/2IejR8ea1D

I'm a bit mixed on #Ironheart. There are solid elements, like Dominique Thorne's performance, the fun supporting cast, awesome visuals and earnest themes. But the writing could be stronger, and some storytelling decisions didn't hit for me. Not a bad show, but it could be better. pic.twitter.com/cbXeVQ9iP4

#Ironheart have some fun moments but it’s never interesting enough nor it manages to stick the landing.
Bland characters and a super uninteresting plot that doesn’t knows where it wants to go. A disappointment overall. pic.twitter.com/pzereKvpb5

#Ironheart delivers an INSANELY FUN STORY that perfectly blends tech & magic. Dominique Thorne is a force to be reckoned with as Riri Williams & Anthony Ramos is haunting as The Hood. It’s filled with fun Easter eggs & CRAZY surprises that will change the MCU forever! pic.twitter.com/a27XtcAhoL

Suffice to say, it seems as though Ironheart will go down as yet another controversial entry in Marvel’s Disney Plus line-up. It’s still yet to be seen how well these reviews translate into viewership, as a middling Rotten Tomatoes score could lead casual fans to wait until the project is fully over to binge it in a weekend. Though hopefully, if there is a follow-up, it won’t take another three years!
