Isabela Merced Suits Up As Hawkgirl For James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ In New DC Universe Design

Isabela Merced becomes Hawkgirl!

Isabela Merced Hawkgirl James Gunn Superman DC Comics

Isabela Merced is poised to take on the role of Hawkgirl in the next reboot of the DC Universe by James Gunn and Peter Safran. With the character set to make her debut in the upcoming Superman movie, DC fans are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of seeing one of the most iconic comic book heroines reimagined for a new era.

The anticipation surrounding Merced’s role as Hawkgirl has inspired fans and artists alike, leading to a creative outpouring of artwork. One notable piece that has captured the imagination of many DC Universe fans was crafted by Instagram user “jobhutz.” This artwork provides a speculative yet thrilling glimpse of what Merced could look like donning Hawkgirl’s iconic wings and armor, setting her stage for her debut in Superman.

Hawkgirl, a moniker shared by several superheroines in DC Comics, has been a staple of American comic books since her first appearance. The most celebrated iteration of the character, Shiera Sanders Hall, was introduced by writer Gardner Fox and artist Dennis Neville in Flash Comics #1 in January 1940. It remains to be seen which version of Hawkgirl Merced will embody in Superman.

Isabela Merced’s venture into the DC Universe as Hawkgirl isn’t her first experience within the comic book movie genre. She recently appeared as Anya Corazon in the Madame Web movie, a project that, despite high hopes, turned out to be a critical and commercial disappointment for Sony Pictures.

The first Superman set photos revealed another DC Comics character

While fans are eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of Merced as Hawkgirl, Superman is currently in production in Atlanta, Georgia. Recent set photos have already offered a sneak peek at another cast member, María Gabriela de Faría, who is taking on the role of The Engineer, a member of The Authority.

DC Studios is also developing a movie focusing on The Authority. Although this film is currently in the early stages without a writer, director, or release date, the inclusion of María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer in Superman could potentially connect her character to that project.

Superman is being written and directed by James Gunn. The movie boasts a star-studded cast that includes David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as the Guy Gardner version of Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and many others.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
