Recent set images captured by Just Jared provide a first glimpse of Maria Gabriela de Faria on the set of James Gunn’s Superman movie. The actress was photographed in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, March 15, gearing up for her scenes in a harness, indicating action-packed moments in the DC Universe movie.
De Faria, who steps into the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer, was photographed in a black leather outfit. The character is a notable member of the DC Comics team The Authority, a group renowned for its radical approach to justice and peacekeeping.
Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, The Engineer is a relatively recent addition to the DC universe, first appearing in The Authority #1 in 1999. De Faría’s casting as Angela Spica represents the second iteration of a character with the moniker of The Engineer in DC Comics.
DC Studios is also developing a movie focusing on The Authority. Although this film is currently in the early stages without a writer, director, or release date, the inclusion of María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer in Superman could potentially connect her character to that project.
The new Superman movie just started filming
Earlier this month, James Gunn confirmed that production for the much-anticipated Superman film is now in full swing. Accompanying the announcement was a sneak peek of David Corenswet dressed in the Superman suit, zoomed in on a House of El crest inspired by DC’s Kingdom Come miniseries.
Superman is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
