Could Jack Quaid have been the new Superman? The Boys star reveals his doomed audition for the upcoming reboot of the DC Universe.
Jack Quaid has recently been taking the superhero world by storm. The actor plays Hughie Campbell on The Boys, as well as voices the Man of Steel in My Adventures with Superman. However, it seems he almost played Superman on the silver screen. According to Quaid, he did audition for the upcoming DC Universe reboot, but his tape didn’t get far.
“I think everyone did,'” Quaid explained on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “If you fit a bill…it’s like just one of those things. I didn’t get very far at all. I put myself on tape, and it went nowhere, and that’s fine.”
Given how much fans love Jack Quaid in My Adventures with Superman, it’s a shame the actor couldn’t bring his take on the character to the new DC Universe. Though given how busy he’s been with The Boys, it’s not likely he could have taken the leading role in the Superman reboot even if he wanted to.
Jack Quaid Loves David Corenswet’s Superman
Luckily, it seems there isn’t any bad blood between the My Adventures with Superman star and the DC Universe’s Man of Steel. In fact, Jack Quaid revealed he worked with David Corenswet in a failed pilot prior to the Superman reboot, and knew even back then that the actor would be a perfect fit for the Last Son of Krypton.
“[It’s] totally cool, specifically because I actually know David Cornswet a little bit,” Quaid explained in the interview. “We did a pilot years ago that never went anywhere. But he’s one of those people you meet, and you go, ‘Oh, yeah, whenever they need another [Superman], it’s probably going to be [him]. That guy is Superman!”
Of course, this doesn’t mean Jack Quaid will never join the DC Universe. Even outside of playing Superman in a multiverse capacity, fans have been campaigning for The Boys star to play The Flash whenever that franchise gets its own reboot. This possibility would even mean Quaid could work with David Corenswet again in the long term!
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
