Maze Runner star Jacob Lofland has been cast in the upcoming Joker sequel Joker: Folie à Deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
Casting news on Joker: Folie à Deux is continuing to emerge following the recent reveal that the Joker sequel had been greenlit at Warner Bros. Discovery. Following on from Todd Phillips’ first foray into the world of DC, the film is said to be a musical and will feature Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
Jacob Lofland, whose previous credits include Mud and the Maze Runner franchise, is said to be joining the sequel in a key role.
Arkham Asylum’s Latest Inmate
Much of Joker: Folie à Deux is expected to take place in Arkham Asylum – or Arkham State Hospital, as it was styled in Joker – and Jacob Lofland is due to play an inmate.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s casting announcement, Lofland’s character will form a relationship with his fellow Arkham inmate Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, A.K.A. the Joker. This could be a dangerous position for Lofland’s character, given how Fleck treated many of those close to him – including his own mother – in the first film.
As well as Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, Jacob Lofland joins Gangs of New York star Brendan Gleeson, Get Out star Catherine Keener and Joker‘s Zazie Beetz for the DC sequel. The film arrives in 2024.
Todd Phillips is returning to the director’s chair for Joker: Folie à Deux, working from a script he co-wrote alongside Scott Silver. Production is expected to begin this December for an October 2024 release.
The first Joker movie is currently available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and digital formats. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the sequel and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more original content!
