‘WandaVision’ Star Teyonah Parris Reveals Monica Rambeau’s New Power In ‘The Marvels’

Monica Rambeau's getting an upgrade!

After making her first appearance as Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, Teyonah Parris is returning to the MCU in The Marvels, where she has confirmed Monica will have a new superpower.

Monica Rambeau was first seen as a child in Captain Marvel, played – at different ages – by Azari and Akira Akbar. The Disney Plus series WandaVision introduced Teyonah Parris as the adult version of the character and showed her gaining superpowers as she moved through the boundary of Wanda Maximoff’s Hex surrounding the town of Westview.

Monica Rambeau is set to return to the MCU in The Marvels, where she will join forces with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel.

Monica Rambeau Takes To The Skies

In a recent interview at D23 Expo, Teyonah Parris revealed that Monica Rambeau will have the power of flight when she next appears in The Marvels.

Fans in attendance at D23 were treated to a first look at footage from The Marvels, which showed Teyonah Parris in action as Monica Rambeau. While speaking to Marvel Entertainment at the event, Parris said she was looking forward to exploring more of Monica Rambeau’s powers in the movie.

Confirming Monica would be flying in The Marvels and talking about getting to bring a Black female superhero to the screen, Parris said:

“Being able to fully realize Monica’s powers and flying, and it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, we have a Black female superhero on the screen with these other amazing female superheroes.’ So, it’s just like, ‘Oooh, woman power!’ And being led by an amazing woman, so yeah, that was my favorite part. Girl power.”

In the comics, Monica Rambeau has adopted the monikers of Spectrum, Photon and Captain Marvel at different points in time and has always had the power of flight. After her powers were shown beginning to manifest in WandaVision, it looks like Teyonah Parris’ Monica will be realizing her full potential in The Marvels.

Ms. Marvel ended with a tease of The Marvels‘ upcoming crossover story. Here is the synopsis for the recent Disney Plus series:

Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?

The series stars Iman Vellani, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat, and Farhan Akhtar. Episodes of the series were directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, with Bisha K. Ali serving as the head writer.
