Director Shawn Levy Says A ‘Deadpool’ & ‘Stranger Things’ Crossover Is ‘On The Table’

Is Deadpool paying a visit to Hawkins?

Stranger Things Deadpool Marvel Netflix Crossover Shawn Levy

Shawn Levy, who is an executive producer and director on Stranger Things and is set to direct Deadpool 3, recently spoke about a bizarre crossover between the two franchises.

Stranger Things recently released its fourth season on Netflix and is gearing up to conclude with its upcoming fifth season. However, the franchise is showing no signs of slowing down, with a spin-off currently in the works as well as a stage play. Meanwhile, Deadpool 3 is set to be the first film featuring Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth to take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As the common thread between the two franchises, Shawn Levy spoke recently about expanding the “Stranger Things Cinematic Universe” to incorporate a Deadpool crossover.

A Stranger Take On Deadpool

Speaking to Variety on the Emmys red carpet, Shawn Levy confirmed plans are underway to expand the Stranger Things Cinematic Universe and suggested he and Ryan Reynolds were considering taking Deadpool on a trip to Hawkins.

“Yes, we are building out the STCU, and now that I’m spending time with [chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment] Kevin Feige, I’m learning a lot about how to manage a universe,” Levy said of a Stranger Things Cinematic Universe. “So I’m taking those skills and applying them to the STCU.”

When asked about the possibility of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool stepping into the world of Stranger Things, the director revealed “Funnily enough, Ryan [Reynolds] and I were trying to figure out how in the world could we do a DeadpoolStranger Things crossover. We haven’t cracked it yet, but it’s on the table.”

And in case any fans were getting their hopes for the bizarre crossover a little too high, Levy did later clarify that he was joking about the idea:

Levy may have been joking about the Marvel and Netflix franchises crossing paths, but if anyone could make it happen, it would be him. And given Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking tendencies and his impending jump across continuities to the MCU, a Stranger Things crossover wouldn’t be the weirdest thing the character’s ever done.

Here is the synopsis for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 2:

Directed by David Leitch from a script written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.
