Jai Courtney recently discussed his excitement to return to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad as Captain Boomerang.
Now under the direction of James Gunn, Jai Courtney expressed his interest in stepping back into the shoes of Captain Boomerang in an exclusive interview with ComingSoon.net. One of the most fascinating things about the Suicide Squad team is that any of them can die at any point. ComingSoon.net began their interview by expressing how they would be disappointed if Jai Courtney’s role in the sequel to the 2016 film was merely a cameo that involved him dying as soon as he appeared on screen:
“Well that’s very kind of you to say, obviously I can’t talk about it at all, but I’d be disappointed with that as well.
The interview continued with Jai Courtney discussing how David Ayer set him up for success in the first Suicide Squad film and how the role is quite liberating:
“I love playing this character! He’s just super rambunctious and gets a lot of funny lines. i just have such a good time with it. It’s easy in a way because David Ayer told me on the first movie to find my inner shitbag, and I think it’s not that far below the surface. It’s fun with boomer because there’s an irreverence to it all. It’s just a good time, it’s not so important to him. It’s all a bit of a gag, a bit of a laugh. It’s fun to have all these amazing people around on these amazing sets and play with all these toys and also get to be an Australian, man. It’s funny, I sometimes take that for granted as an actor because we’re always in different worlds. Even something as simple as not having an accent frees you up! There’s a freedom within that. There’s an immediacy to it that makes it feel a little more natural. Sometimes it’s fun to run away from natural and transform, and sometimes it’s fun to feel like you know this guy intimately.”
Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang was one of the fan favourites in 2016’s Suicide Squad, so it seems like a perfect match that he’ll be returning in James Gunn’s sequel. While David Ayer won’t be working on this iteration of the Suicide Squad, Jai Courtney still seems excited to reprise his role. The Suicide Squad is now under director James Gunn, best known for his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
