DC Studios has confirmed that Robert Pattinson will remain Batman in Matt Reeves’ standalone universe, separate from the new DC Universe continuity.
During a recent DC Studios presentation, James Gunn and Peter Safran addressed speculation about Robert Pattinson’s potential involvement in the DC Universe movie The Brave and the Bold. Their comments effectively ended fan hopes for a direct crossover between the actor’s current Batman iteration and the new DC Universe continuity.
When asked about the odds of Pattinson being Batman in Brave and the Bold, Gunn was blunt. “None, very unlikely,” the DC Studios co-head stated directly to a group of journalists.
When further queried about discussions with Matt Reeves regarding Pattinson, Gunn provided a more detailed response. “Matt’s [The Batman: Part Two] is still a DC Studios project. I talked to Matt three times yesterday,” he explained. “We’ve talked about literally every permutation… Have we ever talked about Robert Pattinson? Yeah. But the serious conversations, no.”
What we know about Batman’s future in the DCU
Regarding The Brave and the Bold, which does not yet have a release date, Peter Safran confirmed the project is currently in script development, with Andy Muschietti expected to be the first to review the screenplay. When pressed about the identity of the film’s writer, Safran remained tight-lipped.
Matt Reeves is currently developing The Batman: Part Two screenplay with writer Mattson Tomlin. His HBO series The Penguin — which recently garnered critical acclaim — is already generating discussions about a potential second season, further expanding the reach of his Batman universe.
During the world premiere of Mickey 17 in London, Pattinson revealed hat production on The Batman: Part II is slated to begin at the end of this year. While maintaining a tight seal on specific plot details, he teased, “I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone, but it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting.”
