Ever since James Gunn announced that the DC Universe would be getting its own Batman separate from Robert Pattinson’s take on the character, the internet has gone wild with speculation about who might be cast as the Caped Crusader. While names like Jonathan Bailey and Brandon Sklenar have been floated as possible names, no fancast has been more popular than Alan Ritchson.
Over the last few years, Alan Ritchson has become a household name. His charming yet powerful performance on Reacher has captivated audiences young and old. As such, fans immediately began to cook up their dream castings of him in the Marvel and DC Universe. And while characters like Shazam and Aquaman (a second time) have been floated, none have been more popular to talk about than Batman.
James Gunn Speaks On Alan Ritchson As Batman
Yet much like any discussion of the DC Universe, it all inevitably wraps around to James Gunn. The actor recently sat down with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast for a wide-ranging discussion about the franchise. During the chat, he remarked that he is a fan of Alan Ritchson, though didn’t say much about him potentially playing Batman.
“I am a big Alan Ritchson fan, both as an actor and as a guy,” Gunn remarked before adding. “Let’s just wait to see what happens.”
This isn’t too much different than what James Gunn has said about…well…basically every other DC Universe fancast he’s been asked about. However, it does mean that Alan Ritchson is at least on the director’s radar. And when it comes time to cast Batman, there’s a good chance he’ll get a call, even if he won’t be getting a call back.
