Is Batman getting his iconic colors?

Will Batman finally don the Grey and Blue on the silver screen? James Gunn comments on the possibilities for the hero’s suit when he enters the DC Universe.

There have been a lot of arguments about what Batman should look like once James Gunn finally introduces him in the DC Universe. Should he be grounded or fantastical? Who should play him? How many Robins should there be? However, perhaps the most heated part of the discussion comes down to his suit. From trunks, to color, to cowl, everyone and their grandmother seems to have their own thoughts about what Batman should look like on the silver screen.

Though it seems as if, for once, James Gunn is trying to stay out of an argument about the DC Universe. While doing the promotional run for Superman, the director was asked if he thought it was time to see Batman don the grey and blue suit in a live-action film. Gunn played coy when answering, seemingly confirming that not much thought has been put into the costume yet, even if he likes a wide variety of the hero’s looks.

“There’s no decision made about the costume at all yet,” Gunn explained to CBR “I like [the grey and blue], but I like the other versions too. I like many versions of Batman. I’m a Batman superfan. So I like all the different versions of Batman.”

What Will Batman’s Suit Look Like In The DC Universe?

Despite some people assuming that James Gunn has a master plan for the DC Universe with every detail mapped out, it’s likely he’s telling the truth when it comes to not knowing what Batman’s suit will look like. Not only is that probably up to the costume designer for any given movie, but without a script finalized for Batman: The Brave and The Bold, it’s likely not clear what costume would even be needed for the hero.

Though with The Batman sequel seemingly locked for 2027, it’s likely that James Gunn has some time before he has to bring his version of the Caped Crusader to the silver screen. And given how much discourse there’s been about just the character’s suit, he’ll likely need the time to make sure that the hero looks as good as he possibly can once he takes the stage of the DC Universe.
