Has James Gunn already cast the villain of Man of Tomorrow? The DC Studios co-head commented on the rumor that Dave Bautista (along with others) is being considered for the role of Brainiac.
The rumor mill has been absolutely bountiful the last few weeks. At least, it has been for DC fans. Almost every scooper under the sun has been revealing actors reportedly on the shortlist to play Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow. These reports recently came to a head when one insider claimed that James Gunn had all but decided on casting Dave Bautista as the upcoming villain.
Yet, as with almost any rumor that seems too wild to be true, reality has finally come to check the expectations of fans. James Gunn took to Threads to address the rumors that Dave Bautista would be taking on the role of Brainiac. The director debunks that the former Guardians of the Galaxy star would be playing the villain, nor does he have any role in Man of Tomorrow.
“Oh boy. Let’s forget a moment I’ve never said Brainiac was in the movie,” Gunn wrote. “I freaking love [Dave Bautista] & I have many ideas for who he could play in the DCU. But he & I have never discussed a role in Man of Tomorrow, nor have we discussed it amongst ourselves at DC.”
Who Is Playing Brainiac In Man Of Tomorrow?
Of course, this confirmation led many to speculate that a different rumor must hold the truth about who is playing Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow. However, James Gunn goes on to say that NOBODY who has been reported as a frontrunner to play the villain is actually being considered. This likely includes viral names such as Sam Rockwell, Matt Smith, and Wallace Shawn – along with Dave Bautista.
“In addition, truly, NONE of the names, from the six or seven I’ve seen rumored for a role, have auditioned or been discussed at all.”
With Man of Tomorrow filming next year and pre-production likely starting up very early in the new year, it’s almost certain that James Gunn will be making an official casting announcement for Man of Tomorrow sooner rather than later. Though with the rumor mill now scraped dry, it’ll be interesting to see who actually takes on the role of Brainiac!
