James Gunn may end up writing another draft for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
In a recent interview with comicbook.com, James Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn stated that wouldn’t be surprised if the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gets rewritten. Sean Gunn, who played Rocket on set as well as Kraglin said the following:
“I know, you know…I think my brother may do…he may do another pass, in which case I would read that version.”
James Gunn already had a draft for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finished prior to when Disney announced that he was fired from directing the film in July 2018 after controversial inappropriate tweets resurfaced from his official Twitter account. James Gunn was reinstated to direct earlier this year, and is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after he finishes work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC Films.
Out of all the writer/directors involved with the MCU, James Gunn seems to be the one with the deepest personal connection with the characters he’s involved with. Before the first film was released, the Guardians of the Galaxy were not household names and when the film hit theaters in August 2014 to rave reviews and overwhelming critical acclaim the ragtag team became just as beloved as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Plot details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remain under wraps, but James Gunn confirmed that the film will take place after the events of Thor: Love and Thunder.
