Could David Corenswet be the perfect Superman? James Gunn raises excitement about the actor’s role at a recent New York Comic Con panel.
Fans have been skeptical about David Corenswet ever since it was announced he would be taking on the role of Superman in the new DC Universe. While he’s far from a bad actor, he’s truly filling in the shoes of giants with the legacy of actors before him. This left many to wonder if he could stand up to the weight of expectations placed upon him. Yet nobody is more confident in his ability to wow the crowd than the film’s director James Gunn.
“We’re deep in the process of editing. David Corenswet is going to f****** blow people away,” Gunn teased while speaking at New York Comic Con. “He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be. I don’t think anyone really understands the depth of this guy’s talent dramatically, comedically. He’s the best physical action star I’ve probably ever worked with.”
Fans have already fallen in love with how David Corenswet looks as Superman thanks to the slew of set photos from production. Now hearing that James Gunn considers him one of the best actors he’s ever worked with, especially given the pedigree of people like Idris Elba and Sylvester Stallone, it’s certain that a lot of the fears fans have had about his version of Superman will finally be dissuaded.
When Will The Superman Trailer Release?
All of this hype just makes people want to see David Corenswet in action as Superman. However, there hasn’t been a lick of footage from the DC Universe’ inaugural film. When asked about when the project will finally get a trailer, James Gunn teased that it may be coming sooner than fans expect. However, they also shouldn’t expect it to come anytime soon.
“There’s no trailer yet…it won’t be too long, but it won’t be too soon.”
It’s likely that James Gunn is waiting for some of the key moments in Superman to have finished color correction and VFX before releasing the trailer. It’s also possible he doesn’t want the trailer to squelch hype for the DC Universe’s freshman project Creature Commandos, which drops in December. Most likely then, the first time fans will get to see David Corenswet in action is at the very end of this year or the start of next year.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
