The Suicide Squad director James Gunn may have just revealed Idris Elba’s role in the highly-anticipated movie.
James Gunn is photographed putting together Scrabble pieces on a large frame in the King Shark-themed arcade for the cast and crew of The Suicide Squad, and this DC fan made a pass on the board guessing what other characters’ names would appear on it — including who Idris Elba may be playing.
A DC fan on Reddit shared what they believe would be the rest of James Gunn’s Scrabble board themed to The Suicide Squad, which already had “Harley” spelled out horizontally and what appears to be “King Shark” spelled vertically and crossing with “Harley.” The Reddit user shared their combination of the characters’ names on the Scrabble board, trying to decipher what James Gunn might be hinting at:
Obviously, James Gunn isn’t directly revealing other characters involved in the Scrabble board. This means that Idris Elba’s role can’t be directly deciphered from James Gunn’s official photo from his Instagram post. However, this Reddit user’s pass on the Scrabble board featuring numerous other characters expected to appear in the film leaves one to speculate that Idris Elba’s role could be found there somewhere. If the Redditor is currect, Idris Elba could be playing Bronze Tiger in the upcoming movie.
James Gunn is also known for hiding Easter Eggs in his films, including a prominent Easter Egg that is hidden somewhere in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film that remains a mystery to fans still searching for it.
A few months back, it was reported that Idris Elba was tapped to replace Will Smith as Deadshot in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. However, it has been reported that Idris Elba will instead play a new character, leaving many to speculate that he could potentially play Bronze Tiger.
The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is expected to deliver a new take on the supervillain team, with Idris Elba playing a fresh character, Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney reprising his role as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman playing Rick Flag again, David Dastmalchian starring as Polka-Dot Man, and Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller. John Cena is reportedly in talks for an undisclosed role.
The Suicide Squad is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, Nightwing, Supergirl and New Gods.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on Idris Elba, James Gunn and the future of the DC Extended Universe.s
