James Gunn Teases Soundtrack For ‘Peacemaker’ Series

Gunn says a soundtrack hasn't gotten him this excited since the first Guardians film.

James Gunn John Cena Peacemaker HBO Max DCEU

James Gunn talked a bit about what we can expect from the music in the upcoming Peacemaker series starring John Cena.

The music in James Gunn’s films is always memorable, and The Suicide Squad was no exception. We recently got the first footage from Gunn’s next project that will focus on John Cena’s Peacemaker, which might’ve featured one of the songs that will be present in the series.

While speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour panel, Gunn said the soundtrack for Peacemaker was one that excited him as much as the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, and offered a little bit of a taste for what kind of music the HBO Max series will feature:

“It really is all hair metal… A lot of 80s hair metal, but it’s also a lot of modern sleaze rock and hair metal that comes out of Europe — a lot of really great bands that people don’t know about. I love that stuff but there’s also a lot of really bad hair metal. So it was fun finding the really good stuff to inject the series with flavor, which we keep throughout the whole first season.”

In the first footage from Peacemaker, we also see John Cena donning the tighty-whities once again, and the actor joked about Gunn’s obsession:

“As far as my dancing goes, I’ve learned two things about James Gunn through our relationship: One, he’s obsessed with my tighty-whities. And two, he always wants to make me dance, so you can watch this on HBO Max, and there will more than likely be tighty-whities and dancing in store.”

John Cena’s Peacemaker can currently be seen in The Suicide Squad. Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid, and Taika Waititi.

The Suicide Squad is currently playing in theaters, while Peacemaker will hit HBO Max in January. Stay tuned for the latest news Peacemaker and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more content!
