Is Peacemaker the key to Man of Tomorrow? James Gunn teases that last week’s surprising cameo may be setting up a key storyline for the DC Universe.
Episode 6 of Peacemaker was full of absolutely shocking twists and turns. Though, out of everything James Gunn decided to reveal in those packed 40 minutes, perhaps the most exciting moment was a cameo made by Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. While it’s not exactly clear how the deal will play into the last 2 episodes of the show yet, signs point to it being a key moment in the ever-growing DC Universe.
And it seems James Gunn agrees. When speaking to Collider about the absolutely stunning cameo, he admits that fans shouldn’t expect to see more of Nicholas Hoult for the remainder of Peacemaker season 2. However, he also suggests that the deal made by Lex Luthor may impact future DC Universe projects- including Man of Tomorrow.
“Oh no, no, we’re not going to be seeing Nick necessarily, but his deal is important to the rest of the season, incredibly important, not only to the rest of the season, but to the Man of Tomorrow as well.”
How Peacemaker Connects To Man Of Tomorrow
To some, this may be an exciting tease as to how James Gunn plans to interconnect the DC Universe. To others, the cameo rings bells of “homework”, with them now having to watch two seasons of Peacemaker to understand Man of Tomorrow. However, the director assures that the two projects stand independently, despite Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor playing a role in both.
“I don’t want people to feel like, if they like Superman and don’t like Peacemaker, I don’t want them to have to watch Peacemaker or vice versa.”
“So there’s things that are connected, but when I’m running Man of Tomorrow, I make sure that people can come in just on Man of Tomorrow and understand everything, you know, especially not having to watch Peacemaker. Superman is a little bit different because it is a sequel to that. So it’s different in that respect..”
It’s a relief to hear that, despite how involved James Gunn is in projects as the co-chair of the DC Universe, he’s not weaving a grand tapestry than can only be understood as a whole. Peacemaker and Man of Tomorrow are certain to speak to different audiences. The only true certainty is that Nicholas Hoult will continue to kill it as Lex Luthor.
