Is Peacemaker the true Man of Tomorrow? James Gunn speaks on the potential connections season 2 may have to the upcoming DC Universe film.
James Gunn shadow dropping an announcement of Man of Tomorrow is up there as one of the craziest moments in comic book history. All discourse about Batman fan casting, Peacemaker season 2, and Clayface‘s continuity in the DC Universe went out the window the nanosecond the director made his posts, with the internet scrambling to figure out any details about what the story may hold.
However, it seems as though some fans may have been missing the biggest clues hiding right in front of their faces. James Gunn recently took to social media to speak on where Man of Tomorrow sits within the DC Universe. While the director said that every project in the franchise will stand on its own, he did tease some major ties to Peacemaker season 2.
“As I’ve said countless times, you can watch every project by itself, of course (just like you can watch Peacemaker by itself or watch Superman without seeing Creature Commandos),” Gunn wrote on Threads. “But Man of Tomorrow and [Peacemaker season 2] are very, very connected.”
How Peacemaker Ties Into Man of Tomorrow
Perhaps the biggest theory when it comes to how James Gunn plans to tie Peacemaker into Man of Tomorrow stems from the “other Earth” seen in season 2. While Christopher Smith currently sees it as a paradise, many believe that it could secretly be Earth X: a world where the Nazis won World War 2. If this is true, James Gunn could be setting up a storyline similar to “A Crisis On Two Earths” for the DC Universe’s first big crossover.
Then again, it’s possible that James Gunn is setting up something else for Man of Tomorrow. Some people think the ties to Peacemaker are going to be a lot simpler than they might appear, with the ending of season 2 somehow tying into Lex Luthor being let out of prison by Amanda Waller to form Checkmate. Though that is, truthfully, pure speculation.
