James Gunn is currently wrist-deep writing Peacemaker Season 2. However, it seems the show won’t be focused on the impending DC Universe reboot.
Many fans questioned how Peacemaker could get a second season, given James Gunn is set to reboot the entire DC Universe with Peter Safran. While the details have been kept close to his chest, Gunn has teased the show will address the continuity shift. Based on Gunn’s comments on Threads, it won’t play a large role in the series.
It certainly makes sense James Gunn won’t go out of his way to address the new DC Universe continuity in Peacemaker season 2, especially given how detached the first season was from the DCEU. While many comic fans wouldn’t want to admit it, the average viewer probably won’t even realize there is a reboot. Keeping an explanation short and sweet is certainly the best way to go!
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, all four projects struggling at the box office. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
