James Gunn has opened up about the possibility of a second season of Peacemaker and says that it will likely happen.
Before The Suicide Squad was even released, James Gunn revealed that an HBO Max spinoff revolving around John Cena’s Peacemaker was in development. The director would go on to call the series a sequel to The Suicide Squad and has since confirmed that more spinoffs are in the works for HBO Max. This does beg the question as to what will become of Peacemaker after the first season.
James Gunn has stated in the past that while he wants to do a second season of Peacemaker, he admits that he’s going to need a break after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Break or not, however the show has become one of the most popular series in the world and the director has admitted to Deadline that a second season is very likely:
“There’s a really good chance of that. We’re the biggest show in the world right now,”
Here is the synopsis for James Gunn’s Peacemaker:
PEACEMAKER explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of executive producer James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!
Peacemaker was created by James Gunn, who wrote all the episodes and directed five of them. The first season of the HBO Max series will consist of eight episodes, with Brad Anderson, Jody Hill, and Rosemary Rodriguez also directing episodes. Clint Mansell and Kevin Kiner also composed the DC show’s score.
The HBO Max series stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
Peacemaker is now streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes dropping every Thursday. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding The Suicide Squad spinoffs and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
