Everything seems to line up perfectly on the set of Superman! DC Studios co-head James Gunn recently shared a perfectly timed photo with Mr. Terrific co-creator John Ostrander.
While Mr. Terrific has been a mainstay in DC Comics since the 1940s, the character has gone through dozens of incarnations over the years. The most recent one, and the one being adapted in James Gunn’s Superman reboot, is Michael Holt. Coincidentally, the character’s co-creator John Ostrander stopped by the film’s set on the 27th anniversary of the character, leading to another iconic picture from the set!

John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake created the modern Mr. Terrific all the way back in 1997 for an issue of Spectre. Since then, the character has blown up in popularity. Not only does he lead his own DC Comics team in The Terrifics, but he’s been adapted in dozens of projects, from Arrow to Injustice, and now James Gunn’s Superman.
Edi Gathegi Becomes Mr. Terrific
Mr. Terrific is set to be played by an equally terrific actor: Edi Gathegi. While James Gunn has kept quiet about the character’s role in the DC reboot, it’s clear Gathegi is taking the role seriously. Recent photos have shown the actor has gotten jacked for his part in Superman, rivaling even the muscles of Superman star David Corenswet.
Many fans speculate that Edi Gathegi’s commitment to the role of Mr. Terrific is due to plans for a live-action adaptation of The Terrifics down the line. It’s not out of James Gunn’s wheelhouse to adapt such an odd comic team for a live-action DC project. Though for now, it’s likely the only news fans will get about the character will come from the Superman reboot.
