Is Man of Tomorrow actually getting a new title? James Gunn gives fans a long-awaited updated on the upcoming DC Universe film.
Official news on Man of Tomorrow has been rather sparse these past few weeks. This may be why the concept of a title change seemed to excite fans so much. A (now amended) report by Variety on the Warner Bros. Discovery merger referred to the film as Superman: Man of Tomorrow, leading many to assume that James Gunn had changed the title for the trades. (Though, it is notable that Variety has been using the title Superman: Man of Tomorrow since September of last year).
James Gunn, predictably, took to Threads to set the record straight on if he gave his next DC Universe project a title change. According to the director, Man of Tomorrow is still simply called Man of Tomorrow. He also adds that, in general, he tries to avoid using colons in movie titles.
“It’s has not been retitled. It’s Man of Tomorrow,” Gunn writes before continuing. “I try to avoid the colons. No double-entendres intended.”
Man Of Tomorrow Makes Progress
Continuing to speak on Threads, James Gunn did provide a rather positive update on the current state of Man of Tomorrow. While a title change didn’t happen, he has gotten quite a bit of work done on the upcoming DC Universe film. Perhaps the most exciting of that work is that the director is almost done storyboarding the film.
“Continue prepping. And 12. A couple months out and I’ve already storyboarded almost the entire film. All the real work is NOW, before starting production. The more I do now the less I have to do shooting and in post!”
It’s good to hear that James Gunn is getting a jump on storyboarding Man of Tomorrow. If the rumor mill is to be believed, it may end up being the biggest DC Universe project to date. So even though a title change was never in the cards, it seems as though the project is still on track to meet its expected release window.
