James Gunn Clarifies Reports That A ‘Wonder Woman’ Reboot Is Being ‘Fast-Tracked’ For The DC Universe

Is Wonder Woman on her way?

Is Wonder Woman actually a top priority for James Gunn? The DC Universe architect speaks out on reports that a reboot for the character is being fast-tracked.

With Superman proving that the DC Universe has the sauce to be a blockbuster mega-franchise, reports have been coming in hot and heavy about new projects being put into development. One of the biggest rumors revolves around shows based around the most popular characters from James Gunn’s reboot, such as Mister Terrific and Jimmy Olsen.

However, one report blowing up on social media suggests that Warner Bros. Discovery is pushing James Gunn to “fast-track” development on a Wonder Woman reboot. This left some fans worried, especially given the divisive nature of the character’s last duology. However, it seems as though those reports aren’t as straightforward as they first seemed.

“I don’t know what they mean by fast-tracking,” James Gunn clarified to Rolling Stone. “I’ve always had Wonder Woman as a priority. But we got the first few things started, and there’s some other things that are really close to green-lighting.”

“Like there’s a television show that I hope that we’re gonna be green-lighting in the next few days. So now a little time has passed, and we really need Wonder Woman and we really need Batman, because they’re so important to us.”

Wonder Woman Already Has A Script Writer

While the project isn’t getting “fast-tracked”, James Gunn did reveal that the reboot may be much further along that some fans may have believed. It was recently confirmed that Supergirl scribe Ana Nogueira has been tapped to write the Wonder Woman project. However, his goal is to make sure that their output isn’t just quality, but that it also doesn’t take too long to come to fruition.

“And so it’s become a little bit more like going to everybody at DC and being like, we need to figure this out. We have good writers on Wonder Woman and we just have to make sure it’s working and they have to not be somebody who’s gonna take two years to write a script.”

Given the nature of modern blockbusters, it makes sense that James Gunn wouldn’t want to wait five years between scripts of a project like Wonder Woman. It seems likely that the character’s reboot for the DC Universe will be greenlit within the next year or so, meaning that it wouldn’t be shocking to see it hit the silver screen by 2028.
