Is Superman spoiled?

Did an upcoming toy line spoil Superman? James Gunn responds to a recent leak that many believe revealed the project’s mystery villain.

MacFarlane Toys is a name seared into the mind of any DC fan. They’re perhaps the most prominent figure making company in the comic book space, and have helped promote almost every major DC release up until this point. It’s no wonder James Gunn would collaborate with them once more for Superman. However, it seems early listings for toys may be causing some major leaks about the film’s plot.

While most of the recently revealed Superman line lines up with characters James Gunn has confirmed for the film; Superman, Lex Luthor, Metamorpho, Green Lantern, there are a few exceptions. Notably, it seems Lex Luthor will be creating a kaiju with figures labeled as “KAIJU” and “LEX LUTHOR WITH BABY KAIJU”. Though the figure that received the most attention from these leaks is on that seems to reveal the name of the main villain, labeled “ULTRAMAN (SUPERMAN MOVIE)”.

Do These Toy Leaks Spoil Superman’s Villain?

Of course, given these toys are supposedly leaks for a DC property, James Gunn had to step in to give his two cents on the situation. The director of Superman took to Threads to clarify that he does need to give the go-ahead to MacFarlane before they make any toys. He personally believes that nothing in the listing for the toys constitutes a spoiler.

“I’m not sure what you’re talking about but I have to okay all the toys,” James Gunn explained in a recent post. “And I don’t think any of them spoil anything.”

It’s possible that James Gunn means “spoil” in a more literal sense than fans. While these leaks do confirm new characters that will appear in Superman, it doesn’t actually ruin the enjoyment fans will have seeing the DC film on the silver screen. If anything, hype is building among fans right now hearing that David Coresnwet is set to fight a kaiju!
