Could Aaron Pierre have been the perfect member of the Guardians of the Galaxy? James Gunn reveals how the Lanterns star almost joined the MCU.
Aaron Pierre has been making waves on the industry over recent months. From his breakout role in Rebel Ridge to getting cast as John Stewart in Lanterns. The internet has fallen in love with the London-born actor. However, it seems James Gunn saw his potential long before anyone else during his time working on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in the MCU.
During a recent appearance at New York Comic Con (NYCC), James Gunn was asked about Aaron Pierre landing the highly coveted Lanterns role. When talking about the actor, Gunn revealed that Pierre came onto his radar during his time in the MCU. In particular, he was in the mix to play Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“Aaron Pierre was almost Adam Warlock, I’ve been wanting to work with him forever. When it came down to it, he had a phenomenal audition with Kyle Chandler.”
Was Aaron Pierre Almost Cast As Adam Warlock?
It’s likely that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would have turned out very differently if James Gunn had cast Aaron Pierre in the role. The MCU’s version of Adam Warlock is a lot more comedic than the character’s comic-counterpart. While that’s perfect for an actor like Will Poulter, it’s clear that Pierre’s strengths come from his more dramatic roles, making him perfect to play John Stewart in Lanterns.
Many fans seem to agree with this sentiment. Posts across social media remark that, while it would have been fun to see Aaron Pierre as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he is a picture-perfect casting for John Stewart. Even though James Gunn isn’t directly working on Lanterns, it seems many of his dreams for his time in the MCU are finally coming true with his control over the brand new DC Universe reboot.
