James Gunn Reveals Photo With ‘Superman’ Co-Creator Jerry Siegel’s Grandsons

A true Superman legacy!

James Gunn DC Studios Superman for All Seasons

The legacy of Superman‘s creators continues to live on! DC Studios co-head James Gunn has shared a new photo with the grandsons of Jerry Siegel.

Superman was created in 1938 in a joint effort by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. That one comic created perhaps the most iconic superhero in all of American canon, inspiring thousands of adaptations over nearly 100 years, with the latest being James Gunn’s upcoming DC Studios film.

While neither Jerry Siegel nor Joe Shuster are around today, their legacy still lives on. James Gunn was visited by Siegel’s grandsons, Michael and James Larson, during a read-through of the Superman script. There, the Larsons presented Gunn with a copy of Action Comics #1, Superman’s debut issue. The photo of Gunn with the comic and the brothers can be seen below.

James Gunn’s Love Letter To Superman

James Gunn’s Superman movie is set to be a true love letter to the Man of Steel. The DC Studios film seems to be taking inspiration from sources all across the character’s canon, and is even rumored to film in Ohio, the birthplace of the character in the minds of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

While James Gunn will be putting the film in an already-established DC Universe, it seems that Superman will remain the center of the project, with dozens of other heroes appearing in the film. Nobody will ever be able to recapture the magic put to the pages by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, but it certainly seems as though Gunn wants to honor their legacy as best he can.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
