James Gunn Reveals What ‘Scooby-Doo 3’ Was Going To Be About

James Gunn Scooby-Doo

James Gunn recently revealed what the third live-action Scooby-Doo movie was going to be about before it was scrapped.

Before James Gunn became a household name for helming the Guardians of the Galaxy films, he was a writer on the two live-action Scooby-Doo movies that came out in the early 2000s. Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed ended up making $90 million less than the first film and plans for a third film were eventually scrapped. However, two Scooby-Doo live-action prequels would go onto air on Cartoon Network.

Warner Bros. is now releasing an animated Scooby-Doo film, which also follows a younger Mystery Inc. Scoob! was supposed to hit theaters this summer, but the coronavirus pandemic has now delayed the film to a release date that has not yet been determined. On Twitter, James Gunn recently revealed what the story for Scooby-Doo 3 was going to be about:

Were you a fan of the live-action Scooby-Doo movies? How does James Gunn’s idea for the third film sound to you? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below!

Here’s the synopsis for Scoob!

“SCOOB!” reveals how lifelong friends Scooby and Shaggy first met and how they joined with young detectives Fred, Velma and Daphne to form the famous Mystery Inc. Now, with hundreds of cases solved and adventures shared, Scooby and the gang face their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this global “dogpocalypse,” the gang discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.

Written by Kelly Fremon Craig and directed by Tony Cervone, Scoob! stars Zac Efron, Frank Welker, Kiersey Clemons, Will Forte, Jason Isaacs, Ken Jeong, Tracey Morgan, Gina Rodriguez, Amanda Seyfried and Mark Wahlberg.

Scoob! has been delayed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
