‘The Suicide Squad’ Director James Gunn Says His Take On Harley Quinn Is “Exploding Paul Dini-Esque”

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has revealed that his take on Harley Quinn is “exploding Paul Dini-esque”.

Harley Quinn made her cinematic debut in 2016’s Suicide Squad and was played by Margot Robbie. The actress is set to return to the beloved character in James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad, which will be a quasi-reboot of the original film. With James Gunn replacing Suicide Squad director David Ayer, fans are expecting a brand new take on the beloved franchise as well as its bevy of characters.

One of the most anticipated takes from fans is Harley Quinn’s, with many wondering how Margot Robbie will portray the character under the helm of James Gunn. The Margot Robbie character last appeared in the critically-acclaimed Birds of Prey, which is currenlty available on VOD.

In a Q & A thread on Twitter, a fan asked James Gunn to describe his take on Harley Quinn. Being the sociable guy that he is, The Suicide Squad director revealed on the social media platform that his take on the character is actually influenced by the man who co-created the character: Paul Dini.

Paul Dini and Bruce Timm famously introduced the character of Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. Since then, the character of Harley Quinn has become one of DC’s most iconic characters, thanks to the work and creativity put forth by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. When James Gunn says a statement like “Exploding Paul Dini-esque”, we have no choice but to get even more hyped for his take on the character. Paul Dini’s Harley Quinn was best known for looking like and having the mannerisms of jester, which could be quite exciting to see on the big screen if that’s what James Gunn is hinting at.
