James Gunn Shares ‘Superman’ Memorial Day Image

James Gunn shares a tribute for Memorial Day!

James Gunn DC Studios Superman Legacy

DC Studios co-head James Gunn supports the troops! The Superman director has shared a new image of the Man of Steel to honor the fallen soldiers on Memorial Day.

Today is Memorial Day in the States. A time to honor those who passed protecting truth, justice and the American way. To commemorate the fallen soldiers this day was created to remember, James Gunn shared a new image of Superman on his Instagram, including a short message of gratitude to the armed services members in the caption.

This image almost certainly means nothing for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, especially given it shows the Man of Steel himself having a child. However, it does show that Gunn understands the compassion deep in the core of the character. Superman is a character who respects all life and those who protect it, be it on Memorial Day or any other.

The Inspirations Behind James Gunn’s Superman

James Gunn’s take on Superman isn’t just inspired by the fallen heroes celebrated on Memorial Day. The director has been very open about the inspirations he used to create the new Man of Steel for his DC Universe. The biggest of which, and the one most people know, is the Christopher Reeve incarnation of the character.

However, that’s far from the only influence James Gunn had in creating his take on the Man of Steel. Some other key influences come from Kingdom Come, Superman: The Animated Series, and the Max Fleischer Superman cartoon.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
