James Gunn just held a big table read for The Suicide Squad, which featured an assortment of talent that he can’t wait to reveal to fans.
In response to a fan question about how B-Movie horror classic The Blob influenced his movies, James Gunn was also asked about casting for The Suicide Squad, which he explains is imminent, but he can’t fully reveal anything until they sort the last few things out:
Sooooooooon. Sorting it out. https://t.co/4joSx4yaw9

Not too long after revealing this information, James Gunn did a follow-up tweet explaining that a recent rumor about the table read happening tomorrow was untrue… Because he did a table read with the assembled cast yesterday:
Like so many rumors, this one was false. Table read was yesterday. I was, truly, blown away by the amount of talent in the room. Holy cow. https://t.co/XnSvFZla5a

So with the cast of The Suicide Squad assembled, it’s incredibly likely that we’re days from learning what the cast of the film is going to be. The sequel seems like it’s got the potential to be a significant improvement over the first, and potentially another R-rated DC Films project.
The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the supervillain team in his upcoming movie, with Idris Elba playing a new character, Jai Courtney reprising his role as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman playing Rick Flag again, David Dastmalchian starring as Polka-Dot Man, and Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller. John Cena, Nathan Fillion, Taika Waititi and Peter Capaldi are reportedly in talks for undisclosed roles, with Steve Agee voicing King Shark.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Batman, The Flash, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, Supergirl and New Gods.
The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Joel Kinnaman, James Gunn and The Suicide Squad as we learn it!
