Superman soars to the top of the domestic box office! The latest reboot has overtaken the gross of Zack Snyder’s Superman films in the US, but international markets tell a different story.

Superman has been exceeding even the most optimistic expectations fans had of it at the box office. While the film still has at least a few weeks left to go in theaters, projections about the film’s total run internationally and in domestic theaters are already starting to come into focus. And, of course, fans have already begun to draw parallels to the performance of Man of Steel and Batman V. Superman.

When it comes to the domestic box office, Superman has become the highest grossing film featuring the iconic hero. The film is currently sitting at $325.6 million domestically, which narrowly edges out Batman v. Superman at $330.4 million, and blows away Man of Steel‘s domestic box office at $291,045,518. By all means, it’s an impressive showing, especially given DC’s recent history.

Superman Still Lags Worldwide

Though while Superman‘s domestic box office is historic, the numbers internationally are telling a different story. The film is currently sitting at $565 million worldwide. Certainly not bad, especially when compared to other recent superhero films. However, it certainly doesn’t compare to projects like Man Of Steel, which grossed $670 million, and Batman V. Superman, which grossed a shocking $874 million at the international box office.

Though people on both sides of the spectrum need to realize that the landscape of film has completely changed between the release of Man of Steel and Superman. Superhero projects are on a downturn at the box office due to a number of controversial releases from both Marvel and DC. International box offices are also down across the board for films- superhero and otherwise- due to political and economic factors surrounding the industry.
