Superman may be heading back to theaters faster than a speeding bullet! James Gunn gives an exciting update on the next installment in the saga.
With Superman still wrapping up in theaters, DC fans had begun to settle into their long wait. Comic book fans have become accustomed to absurdly long wait times for sequels, with many assuming that they wouldn’t be getting a proper sequel to Superman until at least 2029. That is, if they even got a sequel at all!
However, the devil works fast, but James Gunn works quicker. The writer and director recently revealed that the treatment (which is essentially a beat-by-beat breakdown of a script) for the next film in the ‘Superman Saga’ is complete. He added that there are plans to begin production sometime in the near future.
“I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga’.” Gunn told Collider. “The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked out treatment. I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”
When Is The Next Superman Movie Coming Out?
If this report is anywhere near true, James Gunn is doing something truly unparalleled in the superhero space, as well as the blockbuster space in general. It’s likely the next installment of the ‘Superman Saga’ will enter production within the same year of the first film’s theatrical release, if not within the same quarter as the film leaves theaters.
As for when the next installment of the ‘Superman Saga’ will come out, the news is only getting better. Assuming it has a similar production window as the first film, James Gunn will likely wrap filming on the project sometime before the end of the year. And given Superman had about a year of post-production, fans can likely expect the sequel to come in late 2026 or early 2027.
