Trouble is going down in Metropolis! Set photos from Superman give fans their first look at James Gunn directing dangerous demolition downtown!
Set photos have been flooding onto the internet as Superman continues filming in Cleveland. It seems things are finally getting heated up, with today ringing in destruction for Metropolis! DC Studios co-head James Gunn can be seen organizing the crew in what appears to be the lead-up to one of the project’s big action set pieces.
Such a large military presence in the set photos suggests that the damage done to Metropolis is too much for even Superman to handle. Or, perhaps deviously, the military IS the villain during this scene, and James Gunn is trying to trick fans to hide his true plans. Though with David Corenswet preparing to take to the skies, it’s likely not long until fans find out!
The Many Easter Eggs Of Superman
Superman set photos aren’t just filled with a crumbling Metropolis. James Gunn has also tossed in a number of winks to the broader DC Universe, especially in the signs adorning the windows of businesses. In the above photos, Harry’s Dog House could be seen as a reference to the obscure Hardluck Harry character from DC Comics. Below, there’s a sneaky reference to one of Superman’s most iconic locations.
Those with sharp eyes can make out the sign for Hob’s Bay pizza. Hob’s Bay is the name of Metropolis’ local bay, which also encompasses the Suicide Slums. It’s not likely James Gunn will be taking fans there during the events of Superman, but the name helps build out a truly lived-in DC Universe, at least as seen in the set photos.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
