James Gunn is celebrating one of Superman’s oldest allies with a fresh behind-the-scenes look. In honor of Jimmy Olsen’s anniversary, Gunn shared a new photo featuring Skyler Gisondo in costume as the character, taken during production on Superman.
The image, posted on social media, shows Gunn talking with Gisondo on set, with the young actor fully suited up as Jimmy. “Today is the anniversary of Superman’s Best Pal Jimmy Olsen. [Skyler Gisondo’s] performance in [Superman] is gonna knock you out of your socks,””” Gunn wrote. The photo was taken by set photographer Jessica Miglio.
Jimmy Olsen first appeared officially in The Adventures of Superman radio show on April 15, 1940, and has been a key part of Superman’s world ever since. This latest image offers the best look yet at Gisondo’s take on the Daily Planet photographer, who is expected to play a significant supporting role in the new DC Universe.

The first Superman trailer dominated online conversations as James Gunn and Peter Safran prepare to launch the DC Universe on the big screen. Following the release of the animated series Creature Commandos on Max, Superman is poised to set the tone for the reimagined cinematic universe in his first cinematic solo outing since 2013’s Man of Steel.
What to expect from James Gunn’s Superman movie
Corenswet steps into the role of Superman, taking over from Henry Cavill, who portrayed the character in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe. Rachel Brosnahan joins him as Lois Lane, alongside a star-studded cast that includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. DC Studios co-head James Gunn, known for his distinct blend of humor and emotion in superhero projects like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, writes and directs the film.
Superman is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates as the DC Universe continues to unfold.
