Is Victoria Pedretti joining the cast of The Batman? James Gunn breaks his silence on a recent rumor that the actress is in talks to play Harley Quinn.
With The Penguin proving to be a massive success for HBO, the rumor mill has been circulating with talks of how The Batman universe can continue to expand beyond its upcoming sequel. The most recent rumor to hit the mainstream is one suggesting that Victoria Pedretti is in talks with Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. Discovery to play Harley Quinn.
Just as with any rumor that has to do with a DC property, James Gunn was quick to respond to it on Threads. When asked if it was true that Victoria Pedretti would be joining The Batman universe as Harley Quinn, Gunn responded with a short “It is not,” cutting the rumor down before it could get much traction in the comic book space.
Could Harley Quinn Join The Batman?
While James Gunn debunked the rumor that Victoria Pedretti would be playing Harley Quinn in The Batman universe, that doesn’t mean the character couldn’t appear in a future project. Matt Reeves has expressed a desire to craft even more spin-offs for the franchise and, given Harley Quinn is one of the most popular characters in Batman’s rogues gallery, it only makes sense that she would be at the top of many fans’ list to receive a series.
However, it’s important to remember the deliberate tone that Matt Reeves is crafting for The Batman saga. Reeves has always made it very clear that the franchise will continue to distinguish itself from James Gunn’s DC Universe by way of its much more grounded atmosphere. A psychotic clown therapist with a giant mallet might not align with that vision. However, given how successful Reeves and his team have been at reinventing characters like The Penguin, it’s not impossible for them to adapt a grounded version of Harley Quinn.
