James Gunn Celebrates Vigilante’s DC Comics Birthday Ahead Of Peacemaker Season 2

Happy Birthday Vigilante!

Freddie Stroma James Gunn Peacemaker Vigilante

Happy birthday, Vigilante! DC Studios co-head James Gunn is celebrating the anniversary of one of DC’s most beloved characters ahead of Peacemaker season 2.

Vigilante was never the biggest name in the DC Universe. While the character had some sparse roles in adaptations, Adrian Chase was mainly used as a jobber or misdirect for a bigger bad. That is until James Gunn completely rehauled the character in Peacemaker. Fans fell in love with Freddie Stroma’s take on Chase, making him one of the most anticipated characters ahead of season 2.

James Gunn himself also seems to have fallen in love with Vigilante. He took to social media today to celebrate the 42nd birthday of the Adrian Chase version of the character, which was first debuted in 1982 before being adapted with Freddie Stroma in Peacemaker.

The History Of Vigilante In The DC Universe

Prior to Freddie Stroma picking up the character for Peacemaker, the Adrian Chase incarnation of Vigilante had only one prior live-action appearance on Arrow, with a big twist. With James Gunn set to bring Stroma back for season 2 of Peacemaker, he’ll now overtake Josh Segarra as the actor to play the character the longest.

The Greg Saunders version of Vigilante has had more luck than Adrian Chase. The character, who first debuted in 1941, has appeared in multiple DC Universe projects, even getting his own 15-film franchise in 1947! The character has also appeared in more TV shows than just Peacemaker, including Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave and The Bold.
