Is Doctor Fate making an appearance in Man of Tomorrow? James Gunn gives his thoughts on the latest viral rumor out of the DC Universe.
There are a lot of characters fans would like to see James Gunn bring into the DC Universe. However, there’s perhaps no hero fans would like to see get a runback more than Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate. The actor had an absolutely standout performance as the sorcerer in Black Adam. And, if the rumor mill is to be believed, the dream may be closer to reality than fans think.
Pierce Brosnan spoke about his time as Doctor Fate in a recent interview with GQ. The actor revealed some surprising details about the original plan for his character in the DC Universe, such as talks for a TV show and a movie (albeit, likely not starring Brosnan himself). However, the part of the quote that caught many fans’ eyes was that he heard Doctor Fate was going to be in the next Superman movie, which many took as James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow.
Is Doctor Fate In Man Of Tomorrow?
Like anything having to do with the DC Universe, James Gunn was quick to take to social media and set the record straight. The director reveals that he’s “never heard” of the idea that Doctor Fate is in Man of Tomorrow. While he could be lying, it’s more likely than not that Pierce Brosnan was working on bad or outdated information.
In fact, given James Gunn would likely have no reason to contact Pierce Brosnan about reprising his role in the DC Universe, it’s likely that the actor was speaking on plans for the scrapped sequel to Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel– NOT Man of Tomorrow. This would make sense given Doctor Fate is a mantle, one that would need to be passed on after the events of Black Adam.
Man of Tomorrow flies into theaters July 9th, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
