Why isn’t Superman a member of the Justice Gang? James Gunn reveals why David Corenswet’s Man of Steel prefers to separate himself from the LordTech team!
One of the biggest treats fans found in Superman was the Justice Gang. Many assumed they would just be throwaway cameos put in by James Gunn to show that David Corenswet’s hero wasn’t alone in the DC Universe. However, many fans got a shockingly pleasant surprise when the film came out and the LordTech sponsored team became key supporting characters in the Man of Steel’s journey.
However, given how prevalent the Justice Gang was in the film, fans had one question: Why isn’t Superman a member? It’s clear that the Man of Steel works closely with the team on a number of missions, and considers at least some of them to be his friend. Nothing would have changed about the story if James Gunn just made David Corenswet’s hero an official member, so why didn’t he?
Why Superman Isn’t A Justice Gang Member
James Gunn recently weighed in on his speculation in a recent social media post on Threads. The director revealed that there’s multiple reasons why David Corenswet’s Superman isn’t part of the Justice Gang. However, the big factor that fans should focus on is why he would even want to be on a team sponsored by LordTech.
“Well I think there could be a few reasons but, first off, you’d have to ask how comfortable Superman would be in a team financed by one of the world’s biggest corporations – a team that also promotes that corporation.”
Given how much the events of Superman focused on the limits that politics and capitalism put on super heroics, it makes sense that James Gunn didn’t want to smack a LordTech logo on David Corenswet’s perfectly sculpted chest. Though given the future of the franchise, it’s likely that the Justice Gang won’t be too long for this world.
