The Suicide Squad helmer James Gunn has revealed his top five X-Men heroes.
With the X-Men finally on the way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, there’s been plenty of recent discussion online about the Mutant team across film and comics, with one of the producers behind the 2000 X-Men film explaining the lack of comic-accurate suits. But when a debate started by legendary comics writer Gail Simone asked fans and creators to choose their five favorite X-Men heroes, The Suicide Squad director James Gunn had some interesting choices.
While casual X-Men fans will definitely recognize some of The Suicide Squad director’s choices, James Gunn also picked two fascinating Mutant characters as his top two favorites. Kitty Pryde, Storm and Wolverine all made the list, but the director topped the selection with Fantomex and the brilliantly bizarre Doop. Fantomex was part of the Weapon Plus experiment to create super-sentinels before joining the X-Men and X-Force. Meanwhile, Doop was supposedly created by the United States government back in the Cold War. The floating green blob has superhuman strength and psionic powers. Although he doesn’t speak English, most of the characters don’t have a problem communicating with him.Take a look at The Suicide Squad director sharing his love for Doop, Fantomex and the other X-Men heroes in the Twitter post below.
Does Doop count? Cuz if so it’s Doop, Fantomex, Kitty Pryde, Storm, and Wolverine. If Doop doesn’t count I’m not sure I want to play this game. @GailSimone @AllredMD #My5XMen pic.twitter.com/wJy86YKBSj
