Worlds are finally set to collide in Avengers: Doomsday! James Marsden breaks the silence on finally making his return as Cyclops in the MCU’s biggest crossover.
Avengers: Doomsday is officially closing on half a year of filming. While the initial reveal that the film was going to include the original cast of Fox’s X-Men movies was a major surprise, it certainly didn’t come out of nowhere. Partially this was because of James Marsden, who talked so much about making a return as Cyclops during the press tour for Sonic The Hedgehog 3 that fans assumed he was either locked to reprise the role, or he was so unemployed that he was throwing Hail Marys at the powers that be in the MCU.
Obviously, fans now know that Cyclops will indeed be making his return in Avengers: Doomsday. Though in the months since it was confirmed he would be in the movie, James Marsden has been oddly quiet. Variety was able to break his vow of silence during a recent appearance at the Emmy’s, where he teased that Avengers: Doomsday is going to be something massive.
“25 years later? It’s different. Well, I guess 20 years later. It’s exciting, it’s exciting. I mean you can feel that it’s something special. You can feel the world is ready for this movie and these worlds are ready to collide.”
James Marsden Speaks On Cyclops Return
Though while the memes of him on the Sonic The Hedgehog 3 press tour have been the most publicized, James Marsden has been vocal about wanting to return as Cyclops for years leading up to the Avengers: Doomsday reveal. Continuing on with the outlet, he admitted he never thought it would happen after a decade away from the X-Men franchise, but he’s certainly happy it did.
“I thought there was a chance. But I think once 10 years passed and then 20 years passed it was like ‘Well, that was a nice idea’. But now I guess they were waiting for us to all get a little grey in the hair and long in the tooth to bring us back.”
Truthfully, it’s likely that James Marsden gets more of a focus in Avengers: Doomsday than he ever did in the X-Men films due to that franchise’s focus on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. So it seems that, while the wait was certainly long, Cyclops fans are in for a major treat when he finally makes his return to the silver screen next winter.
