Yesterday, TheWrap broke the story that in the upcoming standalone Aquaman movie directed by James Wan, Arthur Curry is reportedly set to face off against Black Manta as his main antagonist. We’ve already written about the actors we see as a good fit for that coveted role, as Warner Bros. has yet to announce who’s playing him.
In an interview with Slashfilm, Wan was asked about his approach to the decision of making Black Manta the film’s villain. Because Warner Bros. and DC have all their filmmakers and cast on lockdown from revealing potential details for their upcoming projects, Wan neither confirmed nor denied the recent reports regarding Black Manta.
I want to know where Wrap got that piece of news from. Come on, I can’t talk about this. I’m not saying anything. No comment is my comment.
The director was also asked about whether or not certain details from the other upcoming DC Extended Universe films need to be taken under consideration for his feature. Wan aptly responded.
It’s like the CIA. I’m on a need-to-know basis and only if I need to know.
Understandably so, James Wan cannot give further concrete details for his trip to Atlantis. But since we have only seen Aquaman in a small snippet in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it makes sense that we don’t have to worry about the King of Atlantis. I mean, Jason Momoa is looking pretty badass in that SDCC Justice League trailer. I think it is safe to say we are in for a treat.
For now, Aquaman is set to hit theaters on July 27th, 2018. Stay tuned for more news regarding the upcoming movie and the future of the DC Extended Universe. Things are looking bright for DC fans.
